If you were looking for the noisiest and funnest place to be on Oct 24, 2008, the Hampton Forest Clubhouse was your best bet. With Rock Band in the same room as Karaoke, the competition for being the loudest (not necessarily best) was fierce, as both were huge hits. American Idol’s William Hung would have been proud of us.
Then there’s Officer Sexy (aka Candice Duong): never before have we seen so many men willing to do a lineup. After further investigation, we discovered they were lining up to get their Asian Beauties of DC calendar signed, as she was also Ms. August. There’s 8-ft tall Yao (Augie) slamming poker chips and bumping his head on the ceiling. Cowgirl Amy won the best female costume hands-down, or cupped (check out our photos). And Billy Idol called: he wanted his hair back from the guy w/ the 8-ft knife. And people were looking for designated drivers when they saw a Heineken (Thuy LeNguyen) drinking a Heineken. They thought they were seeing double. Mr. Tattoo (Dat Hong) won the best male costume, and offered to show one of the sexy cowgirls the rest of his tatts. And who can resist long-haired hillbilly rednecks with bulging arms and bucking teeth (Toan Nguyen)? Or Austin Powers, “Yeah, baby, shag me!”, complete w/ furry chest carpet. There were so many great personalities we could go on for pages.
And let’s not forget the happy Texas Hold ‘Em Champs: 1st place Kerry Chao, who will be shopping at Circuit City soon with his $300 gift card; 2nd place Minnie Mouse (Lisa Hong) gained new respect from the boys with her 2nd place $250 card to Best Buy; 3rd place Bob Voo3 (we don’t know what’s the deal w/ the last name either) will be visiting the cool Apple store w/ his $200 card; 4th place $150 card to Sears goes to Nemo Vengthisane (Nemo, we promise Sears has more than washers & dryers); and 5th place $100 Home Depot card goes to Bac Au, who hadn’t recovered from that last hand that did him in. Don’t worry, Bac, the Feb poker tourney is just around the corner. Augie, sorry you didn’t win the Home Depot card to get your new toilet, but your boss (aka wife Anh Thu Nguyen) will tell Santa you’ve been a good boy all year long. Congrats gang!
We had great fun, good food, killer mojitos, and raised $3k to help kids in Vietnam. Big thank you’s to volunteers Amy Le, Cam Nguyen, Anne Do, Candice Duong, Linda Tunmatip, Marisa Arbuaratna and Philippe Cicchini, as well as all the on-the-spot helpers. Big hugs to Thai Nguyen and Thuy LeNguyen for being the perfect hosts again. And of course there’s no poker party w/o Augie Remy and his dealers, who spearheaded 3 huge, successful fundraisers this year. Thank you all–volunteers and attendees! You make it all possible. Happy Halloween!!
