2010 FCVN Halloween Party & Poker Tournament
The 2010 Halloween Party and Poker Tournament at the Hampton Forest Clubhouse was again a huge success this year. We had 6 full poker tables, lots of karaoke and rock band, fun games and even the Ultimate Fighting Championship on for everyone to enjoy. A yummy dinner buffet prepared by Phoenix, tons of delicious desserts prepared by Terri and Phoenix, and killer drinks made by our three lovely bartenders Terri, Tiffany and Linda. DJ Irvin kept the party going for all the karaoke singers and rock band members. RD made sure all guests were photographed. And of course there’s no poker party w/o Augie Remy and his dealers Cliff Pak, Neal Huynh, Rick Stolpner, Ryan Tran, Tuan Van, and Thai Bright.

This event and the 5K run/walk raised over $5,000 to help buy bicycles for some hundreds of minority Vietnamese children living in the mountains close to the border of Cambodia at Ha Tien, which is an 8 hr bus drive southwest of Saigon. These children currently walk barefoot across the mountain for 4-7 hrs to get to school. They have to carry enough food for 3-4 days, stay at the school, and when the food runs out, they walk back home. The living quarters at the school are poorly equipped for the 600 kids that attend school there. There is 1 bathroom for girls, 1 bathroom for boys and 1 for the teachers. With the bikes, we estimate it will take them 1-2 hrs each way, which is a do-able daily commute, and they can use the bikes to run errands, go to the market, etc. to help their family. The cost of each bike is $40-50 for 24″ wheels. It is our goal to raise enough money to provide 100 bicycles for the children.
